Jillian Keenan published her debut memoir, Sex with Shakespeare, earlier this year. In it, she details her coming to terms with her lifelong spanking fetish, a process that was, among other things, lonely making. 

But there’s an extra layer to Jillian’s story: Like around 60% of American minors, she was disciplined as a child by the occasional spanking. For someone who believes her fetish is innate, though, as Jillian does, this means that every time she was spanked, an unwanted sex act was taking place. 
 
Any kind of sexual violation is horrible, of course, but there’s an acute kind of loneliness to feeling sexually violated with no sanctioning from society. And with no sanctioning from your own family. Jillian’s is a story of unacknowledged trauma.
